Making a child smile, feeding someone who’s hungry, saving a life by donating your blood or stem cells.

Mission Statement

Making a child smile, feeding someone who’s hungry, saving a life by donating your blood or stem cells. These are the core elements that formed this group. It has grown and I hope to foster those ideas. I truly believe that everyone of us would participate if we only knew how. That’s what I hope to do. Provide a platform to collect ideas and information that will become a resource for those that seek answers and assistance. I am alive today because of someone taking the time to make a donation of blood, food, prayer & marrow. I am not alone, there are others like me. You can make that difference. I hope to show you how.

Description

Three years ago I was admitted to MD Anderson to begin a series of chemotherapy that would change my life forever. I was being prepped for a bone marrow transplant. A week later I would undergo that procedure. I was given a new chance at life, an opportunity to right the wrongs I had made. To re-evaluate my priorities. I have been doing that since I left the hospital. My sister donated her stem cells to save my life. Over 200 blood donor gave of themselves to keep me alive until the day of transplant. Family, friends and online acquaintances were there for me. The act of giving is how I am able to write this today.

General Information
Days after being released from the hospital I was asked to appear in a PSA commercial for the Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center to help raise awareness for the need for blood donors. I did so and more. I began organizing and hosting blood drives. Than marrow drives. I raised funds for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. To do these activities I reached out to those that were there for me before.

I asked them to help me, help others and they did so without question. I began “The Giving Back Group” and we have accomplished several things in our newly formed existence  In 2011 we held 4 blood drives, 3 bone marrow drives, raised over $1,200 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, collected gifts for a family whose daughter was suffering from leukemia. We donated gifts for Pancho Claus to deliver to those in need, we raised funds to support walkers in the Avon Breast Cancer Walk. Clothes and food items were collected for Manna House and a local food pantry. This year I hope to do all that and more. The year started slow with me being back in the hospital, but that is not an excuse. The act of “Giving Back” saved my life. I need to continue those actions. With your help, we can make a difference. Here are the coming events that need our support.Your continued support makes me stronger each day. You help me, help others like me. Thank you so much.
